According to the Vatican: Evolution is in the bible
Science vs. Religion – oh no – Science and Religion
Given the November 8th election results in Kansas, where creationists want Intelligent Design to get equal time with evolution in science classrooms, and Dover, Pennsylvania where a pending court case over this same issue seems to have cost 8 republican school board members their seats after they pushed for the I.D. teachings in science class — you’d think this issue couldn’t become more controversial. Enter the Holy See!
In a rejection of the “intelligent design” view put forth by creationist campaigners in the U.S., Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, says that the Genesis description of how God created the universe and Darwin’s Theory of Evolution were “perfectly compatible” if the Bible were read correctly.
So it would seem, for those of us who may have been filled with internal strife over this issue for some time, not wanting to abandon our faith nor practical science and logical reasoning — there is an answer.
But, that answer probably won’t sit well with the fundamentalists behind I.D. and I don’t expect an end to this wedge issue in American politics anytime soon.
Still, it’s good to know that there is a “one size fits all” solution available for anyone willing to wear the cap.
